Anansi the Spider progress

Recently I have been working on a paper cut style animation with some other alumni from Art Center. The story is based on the folklore Anansi the Spider, written and directed by fellow alumni Elizabeth Bayne. I'm designing concepts for all the backgrounds, some of the characters, and I'm building all of the backgrounds and characters assets from paper.

We have actually been on this project for almost a year now, here are some most recent updates from me. I'm in the process making all the final assets, aaaaalmost ready to be animated!

scavenger hunt monster?

while "monster's lair" may seem like an extremely cliché theme.. our monster is different. he lives in a cave somewhere far off in the forests of northern Europe, where he developed a secret fascination towards city life. he goes off to residential areas at night and gathers old furniture and other things discarded by humans. oh and he enjoys abstract paintings. a lot.

This is a tiger. not to be confused with a dragon (which parade the streets on Chinese New Year), or a lion (which guard people's homes.) Traditionally baby boys in China wear hats and shoes decorated with tiger motif, so they will grow up strong.

update update! hi world, i'm doing Howl's Moving Castle for my senior project. This painting doesn't look like it has anything to do with Howl or the Moving Castle. yes that's why i chose this scene. it's a one week assignment and i don't have time to design any characters and props, so might as well pick a scene were everything is made of illusions. so if anyone asks what this is about, i'll just say "no, it didn't really happen. it's only in your mind."

this scene is when Howl is fighting with the Witch of the Waste, with, like i said, illusions. so basically they are two clouds fighting in the sky, trying to fool each other with illusions they conjure up. even that boat is not real! so, am i real? is this blog real? are those gradation for realz?? it is a very dangerous world we live in my friends...

hello blog. i'm back from months of hibernation. no i haven't been sleeping, it was because you wouldn't let me upload pictures! but now i must update. so let's be friends again. ok? ok.

this is about a story i can't quite remember. so there is a mayor making a speech to the town's people about opening a new street, and you can tell he's a jerk by just listening to him... anyway, the important thing is, i chose this scene because there was a cat in the crowd. but i had to cut the cat out later because it wouldn't fit anywhere. poor kitty, come back to meeeeee ><

I know this is a rather bad photo... my scanner isn't big enough for the painting. this is a Moby Dick interpretation, done in acrylic.

I enjoyed it, but I would enjoy it more if I sent people flying around xD I love whales.

while I'm at it... I dug up another Moby-related thing from last year. fast little digital sketch. I wished Moby was a monster whale with horns and spikes so he can really kick those stupid humans' asses. but he is cool enough for what he is.

hello new blog! i'm finally posting here. wow this is awkward.
